CCAS Advising Philosophy
At CCAS, our role is to help you find the information, self-knowledge, and experiences that will move your life in the directions you choose. CCAS advisors will not “prescribe” answers or programs to you. We encourage you to find academic areas that you enjoy and do well in. Extracurricular experiences are integral to career and academic development, and we encourage you to seek opportunities outside of the classroom. We believe academic advising is a collaborative process, and ultimately, you – the student – are responsible for your educational experience.

Drop Deadlines
First drop deadline: Wednesday, September 9th
Courses dropped before this deadline will not appear on your transcript.
Courses dropped after this deadline will appear with a “DR” notation on your transcript. This notation does not impact your GPA.
If dropping a course puts you below 12 credits, you will not be a full-time student, which may affect your academic standing, scholarships/financial aid, health insurance or other issues. You should speak with an advisor if you are contemplating dropping a course that will affect your enrollment status.
Last drop deadline: Friday, October 30th
The drop deadline for semester-long courses is Friday, October 30th. These courses cannot be dropped after this deadline without an action by a Dean in the student’s respective School or College.
Keep in mind there may be earlier or later drop deadlines for courses that are shorter in length (e.g. 3-, 4- 6- or 8-week courses). If you have any questions about drop deadlines, please contact your advisor.
Six-Week Grades
Most first-year students will receive six-week grades. Not all professors provide this feedback, however. For courses that have six-week grades available, you will find your six-week grades in the Student Center of your MyUW portal.
The purpose of six-week grades is to give you some indication about how well you’re performing in your class and to give you the opportunity to speak with your instructor, TA, to find assistance, or to speak with an advisor before the drop deadline, if needed.
This is also a good time to check if are any registration errors on your record (e.g. you are not seeing a class on your schedule that should be or you have received a poor grade in a course in which you did not think you were enrolled).
Should you find yourself in one of these situations, or something similar, please contact your CCAS advisor as soon as possible to address your concern.
