Who should make an appointment?

CCAS sees students who are:

  • Deciding on a major.

  • Are pre-professional. They are currently taking course work in preparation for one of the professional schools (e.g., Business, Education, Pharmacy, Nursing, etc.).
  • Denied admission into a limited-enrollment program and are exploring other options
  • Exploring options with regards to majors and career interests.

Many UW-Madison Schools and College offer group advising for students not yet admitted to their programs. Please visit their websites for more details.

Do I need an appointment or can I see a walk-in advisor?

Our walk-in advisors are available at our residence hall locations from 11:00am to 5:00pm Monday through Thursday and from 11:00am to 2:00pm on Fridays for questions or concerns that can be addressed quickly e.g. When is the drop deadline? How do I take a course pass/fail?, etc.

We highly recommend an appointment for the following issues:

  • Enrollment for the following semester
  • Academic planning (especially ROTC plans)
  • Financial Aid Appeals
  • Probation

To schedule an appointment, please call (608) 264-CCAS (2227) or (608) 265-5460.

If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, please contact us 24 hours in advance, if possible.

Your Appointment

When calling to schedule an appointment, you should:

  1. Dial (608) 264-CCAS (2227) or (608) 265-5460.
  2. Know your ID number or have it in front of you.
  3. Know who you want to meet with (you can find your assigned advisor listed on the Student Center main page in the upper right boxes).
  4. Write down the date, time and location of the appointment, as well as the advisor's name. If you're scheduling your appointment in person, the front desk staff or peer advisor will ask you if you'd like a reminder card.
  5. Schedule your advising appointment during your free time. Your advising appointment will not excuse you from class.

When coming to your appointment, you should:

  1. Remember the name of your advisor. It makes the check-in process smoother, quicker and more convenient for you and for us.
  2. Arrive on time, if not a few minutes early. If you arrive ten minutes or more late to your appointment, you will have less time to talk with your advisor or you may need to reschedule.
  3. If you would like to speak about a particular major, please bring What-If DARS for the major(s). You can print DARS from the My Academics tab in your Student Center.
  4. Bring any relevant paperwork, e.g. if your appointment is for a ROTC four year plan or if your appointment is for study abroad, please bring the required form(s).
